3 Easy Ways to Save on Electricity in your Home
SAVING on electricity means you save money. There are many, many ways to reduce your energy consumption but here are 3 things you can do today to cut consumption without spending a dime:
When not using small appliances such as your toaster, blender, and coffee maker, unplug them. This reduces your "phantom" load as they draw a small amount of current that adds up over time. Another tip is to plug multiple things that are in the same area of the house into a power strip and then you only have to unplug once. The same goes for larger appliances like your TV and other electronic devices.
2. LIGHTS OUT
Simply turning off lights when leaving a room is one of the easiest ways to save energy. Small things can make a big difference in your annual electricity expense and in the words of Ben Franklin, "A penny saved is a penny earned." Switching to energy efficient bulbs, such as CFLs or LEDs, helps you save when you do flip the switch to turn on your home lights.
3. CLOSE WINDOW BLINDS & CURTAINS
In the summer months, closing curtains and blinds during the hottest hours of the day can keep your home cooler and reduce your AC usage. Air conditioning is one of the biggest drivers of higher electricity bills and this easy step can lead to big savings. Another AC tip is to raise the thermostat when you are out of the house. Don't waste energy cooling your home when no one is there!
Energy savings are as easy as 1-2-3 to save you money and helps the environment. Any energy not used is energy that does not need to be generated and that is a win for our environment!
